Last season Baskemölla IF, with 0 points and a goal difference of -185, were among the worst teams in all of Sweden. This season they have actually managed to win a game but they are still rock bottom of Division 6 Skåne Sydöstra. Baskemölla is a picturesque fishing village situated between Kivik and Simrishamn in southeastern Skåne and the best athlete to come from Baskemölla is Marie Svensson, the 1994 European singles champion in table tennis. With the football team being bottom year after year there is always a risk of them withdrawing altogether and I decided to visit Lorenzlund before it is too late to do so.

After a short stop by the harbour I arrived at Lorenzlund some 20 minutes before kick-off. On the far side the trees and fence are really close to the pitch and there is hardly room for any spectators. The side next to the unofficial car park is elevated and there are plenty of benches to sit on. Normally Baskemölla have crowds of 20-25 but with Spjutstorp bringing quite a few fans the ticket lady reported 52 spectators this afternoon. I counted 51 and for once the official attendance at a lower league game seemed correct! Without any assistant referees it was for obvious reasons not easy for the only referee to get the offside calls correct. One of the goals in the 2nd half was scored by a player being at least 2 m offside but the protests were not too intense. It ended 8-1 to Spjutstorp but credit to the Baskemölla players who fought bravely throughout the 90 minutes.
