Match: IFK Simrishamn - Glimåkra  8-0  (Division 4 Skåne Östra)

Attendance: 120

As was the case last weekend I was playing table tennis on Saturday and my only chance of live football was to find an interesting fixture on Sunday afternoon. During the first individual match on Saturday I injured my back and I was really in pain for most of the evening. On Sunday morning I was slightly better and decided not to cancel my planned game, IFK Simrishamn v Glimåkra.

IFK Simrishamn were relegated from Division 3 last season and are aiming for promotion at the first attempt. Being top of the table they are certainly in a good position to do so and with the weather forecast prediction nice weather I was upbeat as I set off around noon. Simrishamn is in the heartland of Österlen, an area in eastern Skåne where a lot of famous people from the bigger cities buy (summer) houses. The road from Brösarp to Simrishamn is probably one of the nicest in Sweden and it is not difficult to understand why house prices have exploded in Österlen. Today there was a cruise with old American cars but it still only took me 70 minutes or so to reach Korsavads Idrottsplats in Simrishamn. Korsavads IP has running tracks and is not the most attractive ground in these parts. There is a grass bowl surrounding the pitch which somewhat improves the experience though.

One of the assistant referees was a former pupil of mine and as the match officials were about to start their warm-up he noticed me. We had a quick chat and then the other assistant referee said he follows me on Twitter. I wished them a good game and promised not to shout anything stupid! On the field IFK Simrishamn were by far the better team and this was quite an easy job for the referees. It was 3-0 at half-time and in the 2nd half Simrishamn scored five more goals to win 8-0. Glimåkra are in the bottom half of the table but safe from relegation. A collapse like the one today is embarrassing for them but it happens from time to time in the closing stages of the season when clubs have nothing to play for. With eight games remaining IFK Simrishamn are now six points clear and in pole position for the automatic promotion spot.
