TorslandaGround: Torslandavallen Visits: 1 Date: 17th April 2010 Match: Torslanda - Västra Frölunda 0-1 (Division 1 Södra) Attendance: 210
Torslanda IK were founded in 1944 and the club is situated on the island of Hisingen, very close to the huge Volvo plant (Volvo Torslandaverken). In 2006 the club were promoted to the third tier of the Swedish football for the first time and despite small resources the club has so far avoided relegation. The game this afternoon against Västra Frölunda was the opening match of the 2010 season and with the kick-off time being at 4 pm I could go to two opening day matches in Division 1 South. Torslanda is close to the sea and there was a very strong wind from the west making it difficult for the players. With the pitch at Torslandavallen being another casualty of the strong winter it was obvious this was not going to be the best of matches. It took me around 30 minutes to drive from Ytterby to Torslanda meaning I missed the first 15 minutes of the game at Torslandavallen but fortunately I arrived just in time for the only goal in the game. After the goal Frölunda had the best of the play and hit the cross-bar with a header late in the first half. The second half saw some decent chances for the home team but Västra Frölunda always looked the better side and almost scored a second goal shortly before the final whistle. The game ended 1-0 to Västra Frölunda to the delight of the 50 or so away fans. It is only around 15 km from Västra Frölunda to Torslanda but in this division 50 is actually a massive away following! Despite both games being quite poor this had still been a good day out for me, the forecasted rain stayed away and I had done two Division 1 grounds in one day.
