YtterbyGround: Ytterns Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 17th April 2010 Match: Ytterby - Rosengård 1-2 (Division 1 Södra) Attendance: 292
When the fixtures for Division 1 were released in January I immediately noticed the chance of a "double-header". Ytterby vs Rosengård was a 2pm kick-off meaning I could go to Torslanda vs Västra Frölunda as well this day. Ytterby won Division 2 Västra Götaland last season and for the first time in their history they are in the third tier of Swedish football. Ytterby is situated in Kungälv, just north of Gothenburg, and the drive took me 3 h 20 minutes. When I stepped out of the car I was greeted by a very strong wind from the west and even if it was quite warm when the sun was out I thanked myself for bringing my winter coat along as back-up. It was free entry today to celebrate Ytterby´s first ever match in Division 1. The actual ground, Ytterns Idrottsplats, is a proper football ground with no annoying running tracks. There is an uncovered stand on the far side but most of the spectators were near the clubhouse and the natural viewing spaces provided by the hill where the clubhouse is built. The fact you had some shelter from the wind on this side of the ground probably played some part as well..... The pitch was in a quite poor condition. The strong winter has been bad news for most groundsmen in Sweden and combined with the strong wind my expectations were low for this game. The first half was indeed awful but the second half was much better. The visitors from Malmö, FC Rosengård, had a player free on goal early on. He was tripped, penalty and a red card. The penalty was saved but 15 minutes later a good move on the left hand side combined with a clinical finishing meant 1-0 to Rosengård. Ytterby, down to 10 men, then equalied with the first chance of the game. A couple of minutes later they almost took a shock lead but Rosengård saved off the line. Throughout the game Rosengård looked the better side and in stoppage time they got their reward. A long throw-in was headed on and then forced over the line. The game ended 2-1 to the visitors and as I hurried to my car I was pleased to have seen three goals and a decent game of football. Ytterns Idrottsplats is a nice ground to visit, it felt a bit cosy around the clubhouse and there are certainly worse places to watch football.
