SmedstorpGround: Smedstorps Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 18th April 2026 Match: Smedstorps IF - Blentarps BK 3-4 (Division 5 Skåne Sydöstra) Attendance: 80 For the first time since 1991 Smedstorps IF are playing in division 5. The opening home game of the 2026 season was called off as the away team (Åhus IF) withdrew from the league only days prior to the league starting. From Kristianstad it is just over an hour to Smedstorp and 30 minutes before kick-off I parked my car outside Smedstorps IP. I have driven past the ground several times but it was now finally time to visit the home of Smedstorps IF. As I stepped out of my car I could feel the smell of freshly cut grass and fertiliser from a nearby field. Lower league football in Sweden is so back after a long and harsh winter. Smedstorps IP is a typical idrottsplats for division 5 & 6 and for the game against Blentarp I counted around 80 spectators. A tractor was working hard behind the south end of the ground and on the pitch it was Blentarp who worked hard early on. It was 0-2 after 20 minutes but out of nowhere Smedstorp scored twice and at half-time it was 2-2. As I purchased coffee during the break I was pleasantly surprised it was served in a porcelain mug and that is something you will see only when visiting a club in the countryside. Blentarp made it 2-3 but yet another equaliser from Smedstorp made it 3-3. With only a few minutes to go Blentarp scored again though to win 4-3. My 875th ground visit was a nice day out and in the coming months I now have plenty of lower league football looking forward to.
