Tvärskog

Ground: Tvärskogs Idrottsplats

Visits: 1

Date: 29th Auigust 2026

Match: Tvärskogs IF  - Kalmar AIK  4-1  (Division 5 Småland Sydöstra)

Attendance: 120

I have only four grounds left to visit in Blekinge and on Saturday I was going to attend Drottningskär v Björkenäs/Pukavik in Division 6 Blekinge. Drottningskär plays at Bergsjövallen on the island of Aspö. Aspö is situated in the Karlskrona archipelago and with no bridges to the island visitors have to use the ferry from the harbour in Karlskrona. Visiting Bergsjövallen is a special groundhop and I was really looking forward to going there and I had even convinced a co-worker to join me. Kick-off was at 15.15 meaning we had to use the 13.50 ferry. The journey would take 25 minutes and as we would arrive an hour prior to kick-off, the plan was to then visit the military fortress on the island before going to the game. We reached the harbour in Karlskrona but as we were waiting in the ferry queue I looked at Drottningskär's Facebook and the game was off! The visitors didn´t want to travel to Aspö today and thankfully I just about managed to leave the queue. I parked my car and looked to see if there were any realistic options for a game at a new ground. The only alternative was Tvärskog v Kalmar AIK in Division 5 Småland Sydöstra and despite the ground being an hour in the wrong direction for us we decided to go.

Kick-off at Tvärskogs IP was at 4pm meaning we had plenty of time to stop and have a late lunch in Jämjö. Tvärskog is just south of Kalmar and the ground is probably not a ground I would normally consider for a day trip. Anyway, as I stepped out of the car I was quite pleased. Tvärskogs IP has a grass pitch which was praised in the local paper earlier this year and it also turned out this was 1st v 3rd in the table. Kalmar AIK played in division 2, then the 2nd tier, in the late 80s and early 90s but in the last few years they have been playing in division 5. A few away fans showed up at Tvärskogs IP and they have most likely seen their club at plenty of grounds over the years.

Being four points clear of their nearest rivals Tvärskog are looking good for promotion and despite Kalmar AIK equalising to 1-1 Tvärskog were by far the better team this afternoon. It ended 4-1 at Tvärskogs IP and I would be really surprised if they are not promoted to division 4. This turned out to be a day where I ended up at a ground I had never heard of but hopefully I will be able to visit Bergsjövallen later on in the season.
